Following on the heels of Suzanne Vega's debut in Second Life, the gents who brought us such timeless classics as "Rio," "Hungry Like the Wolf" and "Reflex" are getting the virtual treatment, according to a press release and a BBC story today. Yes, the 80s pop group Duran Duran is coming to Second Life. Hide your hair products, kids.
The truth is that Suzanne Vega has a folksy grittiness that seemed somewhat out-of-place in the shiny artifice of Second Life. But Duran Duran have always seemed to me like artificial lifeforms, so they should translate perfectly into virtual space.
The press release quotes Peter Wells-Thorpe, head of the band's advertising agency, as saying:
The five members of Duran Duran will actually live a second life 'in-world', controlling their own avatars live and doing things ordinary pop stars can only dream about in the real world. We're asking each of the G8 embassies in London if they will officially recognise the band's new dual nationality and second passports and are hopeful of a positive outcome, at least from the UK, USA and Japan, in the next few weeks.
What a beautiful bunch of BS. I have to say, I like the phrase "bespoke universe."

I remember my cousin go ga-ga over DuranDuran when I was in gradeschool or something. And now they are doing a come back...what the heck!
