I just found out about a cool new sim in Second Life devoted to the short-lived but much beloved sci-fi series "Firefly" and the subsequent movie "Serenity." Called "Washtown," the sim is a place for Firefly fans to role-play as browncoats and Alliance troopers or just hang out with other fanatics (like myself.) (Click here for teleport.)
Recently added was a fairly faithful re-creation of the Serenity spaceship by designer Fenix Eldritch. It's not done yet, but already you can see how much work has gone into making it feel like a home for Firefly addicts. I just finished a very nostalgic visit and took some pics along the way.
It's a cool build so far. Inara's quarters/shuttle is the most obvious unfunished space, but otherwise all the major set pieces are there.
I stepped aboard the SL Serenity and headed straight for the pilot's seat, which I'm sure just about every fanboy and girl did. The controls seem true to look of the series, none of them functional unfortunately. Lots of nice details in here though.

The corridor to the bridge looks just right.

The kitchen, mess and lounge area are still unfinished, but looking good.

The engine room is done so well I expect to see Kailie Kaylee pop out from underneath the main engine thingee, cursing and covered in grease.

The infirmary is still unfinished.

The main cargo bay looks superb, with a neat Mule that you can sit in.

Another view of front of Serenity.

My avatar in front of the homage to the character Wash from the series.

You can purchase this avatar to look somewhat like the Zoe character.

Or you can look like Captain Mal (or not.)

And here's an avatar named Roland Josephus sporting a browncoat and Blue Sun tee-shirt.
