RootCamps in SL line-up for the coming week

Rcsl_day_2_002The Second Life version of RootsCamp has quickly taken shape in the past day or so, with several exciting sessions coming together. RootsCamps are informal real world gatherings for progressive (mostly) American activists and organizers to discuss the results of the recent elections and start planning for the 2008 Presidential election.

From what was only a twinkle in the pixelated eyes of Ruby Glitter and Drew Frobrozz only a few days ago has quickly morphed into what could be an important waypoint along the development of Second Life as a new space for civic engagement and political organizing.  Ok, perhaps I'm overstating the case.  At any rate, it's a lot of fun hanging out with other like-minded political avatars like myself.

Among the sessions being planned:

  • An intro to Second Life for newbies today (friday) at 1pm PST
  • A debrief on the Lamont Campaign at 2pm today
  • A session on using Machinima for social change with Paul Marino and Moo Money, tentatively scheduled for Sunday at 1pm
  • Monday, 1pm: Building in Second Life
  • Monday, 2pm: "The New Politics Begins: The Next Updraft of New Tools in the Rise of 21st-Century Progressivism"
  • Monday, 3pm: "Second Life political organizing and awareness raising" with some yahoo named "Rik Riel" and In Kenzo of Better World Island!
  • Tuesday, 1pm: " A New Philosophy of Politics"
  • Tuesday, 2pm: " Using Second Life to Win the 2008 Presidential Election"
  • Tuesday, 3pm: PARTY!

Please see the official schedule for updated times and topics.  Oh, and join the group "SL Netroots" to get updates as they roll out.
