Avatars stand up for peace in virtual Capitol Hill

Peaceproteststeps2

Today more than one hundred avatars gathered for a dramatic protest for peace at the virtual Capitol Hill sim in Second Life. I have a lot of footage of the event that I will try and get edited and posted as soon as I can.  (I stupidly had my video capture set up wrong somehow, so I hope there is at least some usable video in there.) Congrats to Ruby Glitter and errcheck Hicks and the rest of the NetRoots folks for a tremendous organizing job.  And thanks to the Capitol Hill sim owners for being so understanding and welcoming of our peaceful protest.

I counted folks logging in from at least seven countries: the United States, Canada, Brazil, the United Kingdom, Germany, France and.... Iraq!  At the last minute Spider Mycron, an Iraqi living in exile in Jordan popped in to show solidarity with the protestors.  For the few protestors who were still around, this really brought home the reality of what we were fighting for, and for who.  And it demonstrated the power of SL to bring together people in powerful and new ways.

Here are some more great pictures posted by Ruby Glitter.
