Looking for Non-profit "Best Practices" in Second Life

The awesome youth technology group Global Kids has asked me to prepare a report on "best practices" for non-profits in Second Life that will be submitted to a major foundation. I know many groups from around the world are already doing great work in SL and have learned some valuable lessons that others could benefit from. I would love to get some anecdotes and thoughts on what has worked best (or worst) for you in promoting your work and mission within SL and what you are learning. Some direct questions:

• What motivated your organization to get active in Second Life?
• What were the main challenges you had to overcome?
• What do you see as the primary benefits of bringing your non-profit into the virtual world?
• Would you recommend virtual worlds for other non-profits?  What kinds of groups or activities is Second Life most suited for?
