Scary dental implant illustrations!
I have resolved that in 2009 I'm finally sucking it up and getting a tooth replaced that fell out about a year and a half ago. It's going to be expensive -- somewhere between $2,000 and $5,000 to get a new dental implant. And it might take up to a year for series of surgical procedures to be finished. I'm somewhat resigned to all that.
That said, I really could have done without the scary illustrations like the ones above and to the right that my oral surgeon gave to me. These pictures totally creep me out.
Are they really inserting gray screws into my mouth? Does the removable prothesis really look like a ratchet set? If so, I don't want to know about it.
I plan on flying on some heavy painkillers during the surgery, so I won't see what they installing in my mouth. And once they are in there, I plan on forgetting about them as soon as possible. So why not just make them look like teddy bears or lollipops instead of something out of Home Depot? Blech.

My mom has these- has had a whole mouth of implants for over 10 years (I'm going to guess since 1990/91/92). I could guess she's had at least 25 surgeries in that time, maybe more. I don't think she'd have it any other way, though. She's never been happier with her implants.
I hope you heal quickly from the surgery and I hope that it all goes well. I just wanted to let you know that although that illustration is one of the scariest I've seen
hah I've taken care of my mom post surgeries and it's not too bad. (She cannot take painkillers so she does it without them) The drugs should help tons!!!
